DAILY SHOWER September 8, 2022 Devotion and Declarations

Prayer before the Word:

_ O God, my King, my Your name be highly glorified for the gift of life. Forgive my trespasses. Please, show me Your way, and assist me to follow it to the end in Jesus name, Amen_

TODAY’S TOPIC: Stand by your oath

Text: 1 Kings 1: 28-27 (NIV):

"1:28. Then King David said, "Call in Bathsheba." So she came into the king's presence and stood before him.

1:29. The king then took an oath: "As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,

1:30. I will surely carry out today what I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place."

1:31. Then Bathsheba bowed low with her face to the ground and, kneeling before the king, said, "May my lord King David live forever!"

1:32. King David said, "Call in Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada." When they came before the king,

1:33. he said to them: "Take your lord's servants with you and set Solomon my son on my own mule and take him down to Gihon.

1:34. There have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel. Blow the trumpet and shout, 'Long live King Solomon!'

1:35. Then you are to go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah."

1:36. Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king, "Amen! May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, so declare it.

1:37. As the LORD was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon to make his throne even greater than the throne of my lord King David!"

SHOWER (Reflection):

At sermon on the beatitude, one words of advice Jesus gave us was to make sure our yes is yes, and our no is no by not swearing with anything, including our hair. Today's scripture shows same as King David ensured that his words were not undermined even at an old age. He promised to make Solomon king after his rein and kept it despite the various challenges from Absalom and Adonijah, who at various times claimed kingship over the Israel. The lesson from this is not to make promise one cannot stand to ensure it fulfilment. Another one is to stand always by what you believe or promised. And persistent as exhibited by Bathsheba. Let's imbibe these and other good virtues so as to prosper physically and spiritually in Jesus name, Amen.

PRAYER/DECLARATIONS

1. O God, endow me with wisdom and resources to only make a promise I can stand to ensure its fulfilment in Jesus name, Amen.

2. I am God's temple. I was created in His image and likeness. Therefore, everything He promised me must surely come to pass He does not lie, look backward nor slumber. In  Jesus name, Amen!.

3. As I match forward, my family, business, career, talents and all that concerns me must match forward in Jesus name, Amen.
